African Djembe Drumming
DC residents aged 6-18 are eligible for this free program. African Djembe Drumming is on Saturdays 2-4pm.
Students learn different tonal sounds such as bass, rim or slap, made on the drum with the left hand and right hand. Students move on to learning and memorizing traditional African rhythms as a circle or community group. After playing and listening in the circle, youngsters prepare for performance level complexity with the guidance of the master drummer.
